Welcome! I’m Loren Bream, The Joyful Doula.

My path to becoming a doula grew from my own experiences of pregnancy, birth, the postpartum period and a deep desire to support parents through this transformative time.

Before training as a doula I spent years working in both the corporate world and as a nanny. Becoming a mother myself and navigating the wild west of pregnancy, birth and postpartum in a stretched healthcare system and global city fundamentally shifted my perspective and purpose. I came to understand just how essential informed, compassionate and steady support is during this deeply powerful chapter of life.

During maternity leave with my second baby I chose to deepen and formalise this calling by training with Birth Bliss Academy. I am proud to be part of an incredible alumni of doulas trained by the inspiring Kicki Hansard. This education offered a rounded and grounded understanding of what it truly means to be a doula, rooted in evidence based care, emotional presence and deep respect for each woman’s individual journey.

Today, I feel incredibly honoured to work with parents during one of the most profound and life changing times of their lives. I offer compassionate, holistic help to families through combining practical and emotional care and education. If you want to find joy in these beautiful yet often difficult milestones, then get in touch and we can chat!

“Loren was the perfect person to help us after the birth of our second child. She arrived each day with energy and enthusiasm to do whatever child-caring, cooking or house chores needed to be done. She was our “Mary Poppins” when looking after our eldest daughter, and a friend and confidante when spending time with me. She was an integral part of our family during that time and we would highly recommend her to others.”

FAQ’s

  • A doula is a trained professional who offers continuous, non medical care to women and families during pregnancy, birth, and the early postnatal period. A doula’s role is to provide calm guidance, emotional reassurance, and practical help, while working alongside your chosen healthcare providers and birth partner. A doula can provide antenatal, birth or postnatal support.

  • Midwives provide essential medical care, clinical expertise, and guidance throughout pregnancy and birth. A doula works alongside them as a calm, steady guide, offering continuity, reassurance, and a nurturing presence focused on your experience, while helping you feel heard and supported within a pressured healthcare system.

  • No. A doula will not replace your birth partner. Instead, a doula works alongside them to enhance the overall birth experience. Your partner brings love, familiarity, and a deep personal connection, while a doula offers experienced, steady presence and guidance focused on your needs throughout labour and birth.
